Camp Fire Awareness

Wedensday, November 21, 2018

by Rylee Zavala | Staff Writer

The air over the past week has been unhealthy and toxic. The Facebook video from Snow News Network to the left shows smoke from the Camp Fire hanging over the city of Manteca. On November 8th, 2018 PG&E had reported a power-line outage, which is believed to have started the wild fire. Within minutes the fire had spread to a town in Butte County by the name of Paradise. Because of how drastically the wild fire had spread, many people had to evacuate their homes quickly and they were unable to gather important belongings. Over 11,000 people have lost their homes, their clothes, and their family members to the Camp Fire. What people are breathing when you walk outside is what people have lost.

It is a tragedy what people have gone through in Paradise in the past week. Sierra has collected donations for the people that have suffered. The Hope for Paradise donation drive was coordinated by Mr. Rio. The Hope for Paradise drive included 19 other schools as well as other community organizations. Sierra is creating a list of what they collected and will have those numbers ready soon. Check back for updates!
